About Us
Our story
The Strukta story began in 2013 when Isaac’s dad, David, asked him to build a post & rail fence for the family home.
Using a Lucas Mill to prepare timber from salvaged trees off a local farm and a chainsaw to mortise the posts, Isaac created the first Strukta fence, which still stands today. Before long the neighbours noticed it and wanted one too, so fencing became a new hobby and side hustle. In 2017, Isaac started Strukta full-time. Two years later we moved into the factory we’re in now.
The machinery we use is now much more advanced, offering more options and faster turnaround times, but the handcrafted spirit and personal touch on every Strukta job remain as strong as the day it started.

FAQs
-
Queensland Cypress or white cypress has a consistent colour being light yellow and light brown (gold), with occasional dark brown streaks and knots. It is an extremely durable softwood, termite resistant with a low shrinkage rate. Cypress is sourced from sustainable plantations in central-western Queensland and various other plantations across Australia.
Victorian Cypress/Cypress Macrocarpa (sometimes referred to as Golden Cypress) is a versatile timber that is mostly milled from windbreak trees across Victoria and some forests. Freshly cut it is a straw colour (Pale yellow) which will then go a silvery-grey when left to weather. It is a stable timber, although it is not as long-lasting as Queensland cypress pine
The main differences are the growth properties and natural durability: Qld Cypress is a straight, tall growing tree with plenty of small branches. This results in a lot of knots and a colourful grain pattern. It is termite resistant and has long life expectancy.
Macrocarpa is a large fast-growing tree with multiple branching “trunks.” This results in less knots, a straight grain, and a softer build up of structure. It is susceptible to rot in wetter areas.

Hardwood – Above ground more than 40 years, in ground more than 30 years.
Queensland Cypress – Above ground more than 40 years, in ground approx. 20-25 years.
Cypress Macrocarpa – Above ground more than 25 years, in ground approx. 10-15 years.
Based on a 50x50mm timber stake, so our fences being larger timber sizes are expected to well outlast the above approximates!

Pre-installation: We recommend painting the in-ground portion of the posts with a Bituminous Coating (available at Strukta) which is proven to reduce risks of rot and insect attack, in turn prolonging the lifespan of timber.
Once installed: We recommend giving your timber a coat of penetrating timber oil, this soaks into the timber and protects it from the elements
It is important to note that any timber, once cut, will grey with exposure to weather and outdoor conditions. The only way to avoid this ‘greying’ is to stain your timber with a high-quality product, which will enhance and maintain its natural beauty. Whether you choose a clear or solid colour stain coating, it is always best applied after cleaning and sanding, and well worth paying for high quality products.

You can paint your fence/gates, however it is important to be aware of the long-term requirements when painting external timber. Timber is a natural product and will absorb and lose moisture with the seasons, if paint is not reapplied in a timely manner, these moisture changes can cause the paint to pop and bubble and eventually peel off.
If you do chose to paint your fence, you just need to weigh up the look you would like, over against the maintenance requirements in the future.
One other important point to note, is that hardwoods are high in natural tannins, if you are painting your hardwood fencing in a light colour, it is a good idea to let your fence settle for a few months, so any tannins can naturally wash out of the timber.

No, but a good coat of clear penetrating timber oil, will help protect your fencing and gates from the elements.

Our post and rail fence kits come pre-mortised and ready for easy installation, with no fasteners required, so you can install them yourself or with the help of a professional. Full installation instructions can be found here. We can also recommend fencing contractors in your area to help with installation.

This depends on the style of timber gate you have chosen, however most of our gates fall between 50-250kg. Most good quality gate motors will easily be able to operate these gates.
Please speak with our team to find out the specific weight of your chosen gate.
-
No, we don’t offer gate automation services. We do recommend contacting your local locksmiths or garage door professionals and depending on where you are from, we may have even collaborated with them before!
We do strongly recommend that you steer away from cheaper motors as they do not last the distance. While a European model may result in a higher initial outlay, this will pay for itself in the longer term requiring less maintenance.
-
Put simply, yes. The motor is not taking the weight of the gate, but rather the movement.
